Making a contribution
From picking a cause to the payment confirmation, including the details you are asked for and why.
Steps
- Press Contribute now. It sits in the top bar on every page, and again on the home page and each cause page.
- Answer whether you hold an Indian passport or a non-Indian one. Online card and UPI payments are open to Indian passport holders only.
- Choose what you are contributing to. The dropdown lists the causes currently open, and the Causes page describes each one in full.
- Choose an amount, or type your own in Another amount.
- Enter your PAN or Aadhaar number. This is what puts your name on a tax-exemption receipt, so it is asked for before your name rather than after.
- Fill in Who is contributing — your first and last name.
- Fill in How we reach you — your email and mobile number. The receipt is emailed to the address you put here, so check it before moving on.
- Fill in Address for your receipt — at minimum the address and the city.
- Tick the declaration at the bottom.
- Press Contribute. The button stays grey until every one of the items above is filled, and the bar above it names the one thing still missing.
What you should see
A payment window opens. Once the payment succeeds you land on a confirmation screen, and the receipt arrives by email at the address you entered.
Worth knowing
- You do not need an account to contribute. Signing in only saves you re-typing your details next time, and lets you see everything you have given in one place.
- The grey Contribute button is not a fault. Read the line just above it — it names the single field still to be filled, and it updates as you fill things in.
If something goes wrong
The Contribute button is grey and will not press.
The bar directly above it names what is missing — most often the PAN or Aadhaar number, or the declaration tick at the very bottom. Fill that one thing and the button turns gold.
I hold a non-Indian passport and there is no payment option.
That is correct. Online contributions are open to Indian passport holders only. Write to helpdesk@tejgyan.org and you will be told how to contribute.
The payment failed but money left my account.
Do not contribute a second time. Write to helpdesk@tejgyan.org with the date, the amount and the reference your bank shows. A failed payment is reversed by the bank, usually within a week.
